Innovation and the subtle power of inner coherence

In modern companies, process models are deliberately used for innovation projects, leading to an iterative approach. Design Thinking, Scrum and Effectuation are recognized representatives of these models. This is an encouraging development because only in this way will the unpredictability of innovation projects be taken into account.

Despite or perhaps because of this realization, many people find it difficult to innovate. The knowledge of the ideal approach does not protect you from encountering internal blockages. Because innovating involves risks and makes you vulnerable? Inevitably, fears arise. We look with awe at the people who have the courage to overcome this fear and pursue a risky project full of energy.

What gives them the necessary strength is the sure feeling of inner coherence. "I'm exactly the person I always wanted to be - I'm not afraid of anything." Whether Freddy Mercury really said that or just put it in the movie Bohemian Rhapsody - all the great innovators could have said it. This feeling is an essential drive to break new ground.

What does this mean for innovation in companies? Can we allow ourselves to ignore this inner coherence?
